What is the difference between a gyratory crusher and a jaw crusher?

Author: Time:2025-01-20

Both gyratory crushers and jaw crushers are used for crushing sand and gravel aggregates. They are similar in function, but their appearance and size are quite different. The gyratory crusher has a larger processing capacity. So what are the more specific differences between the two?

Advantages of gyratory crusher:

(1) It works relatively smoothly, has less vibration, and has a smaller basic weight. The basic weight of a gyratory crusher is usually 2-3 times the weight of the machine, while the basic weight of a jaw crusher is 5-10 times the weight of the machine itself;

(2) The gyratory crusher is easy to start, unlike the jaw crusher, which requires auxiliary tools to turn the heavy flywheel before starting (except for the segmented start jaw crusher);

(3) The gyratory crusher produces less flake products than the jaw crusher.

(4) The crushing chamber is deep, the operation is continuous, the production capacity is high, and the unit power consumption is low. Compared with the jaw crusher with the same feed opening width, its production capacity is more than double that of the latter, and its power consumption per ton of ore is 0.5-1.2 times lower than that of the jaw crusher;

(5) It can be filled with ore. Large gyratory crushers can directly feed raw ore without adding ore bins and feeders. However, jaw crushers cannot be filled with ore and require uniform ore feeding, so they need to have additional ore bins (or ore hoppers) and feeders. When the ore size is *er than 400 mm, expensive heavy plate feeders need to be installed;

Disadvantages of gyratory crusher:

(1) The machine is heavy. It is 1.7-2 times heavier than the jaw crusher with the same feed opening size, so the equipment investment cost is higher.

(2) Installation and maintenance are relatively complicated, and overhaul is also inconvenient.

(3) The gyratory body is higher, generally 2-3 times higher than the jaw crusher, so the construction cost of the plant is higher.

(4) It is not suitable for crushing wet and sticky ores.
